Employee onboarding checklist for Egypt
Everything to do from the accepted offer to the end of the first month, so a new employee is legally registered, paid correctly and productive quickly.
The short answer
Before day one: a written offer, the documents, and a signed Arabic contract in four copies. In the first days: social insurance registration, payroll and bank details, and access to systems. In the first month: probation goals and a check-in. Labour Law 14 of 2025 caps probation at three months.
Before the first day
- Send a written offer with the job, gross salary, start date and probation period
- Collect a copy of the national ID (check the number with our free decoder), birth certificate, qualifications and military service status for men
- Get the employee’s bank IBAN for salary transfer and check it
- For non-Egyptians: the work permit must be issued before they start
- Prepare the employment contract in Arabic, four original copies, with a second language if needed
First days
- Sign the contract and give the employee their copy
- Register the employee with social insurance from the start date, with the right insurable wage
- Add them to payroll with the gross, allowances and insurable wage
- Set their leave entitlement, work schedule and attendance method
- Give them the work regulations and policies, and keep a signed acknowledgement
- Set up email, systems and the employee app
The first month
- Agree goals for the probation period and who reviews them
- Hold a check-in at the end of the first and second month
- Decide before probation ends: confirm, or end the contract without notice during probation
- Check the first payslip with the employee
Keep on file
- Signed contract, ID copy, qualifications and the insurance registration
- The employee’s acknowledgement of the work regulations
- Every salary change, with the date and approval
- Keep the file for 5 years after the contract ends
