Annual leave in Egypt: how many days, and how to track them
How many days of annual leave an employee gets, when it goes up, how casual leave fits in, and how to keep balances right without a spreadsheet.
The short answer
Under keyt HR’s default rules: no annual leave in the first 6 months, 15 days a year after that, 21 days after a full year of service, and 30 days after 10 years of service or from age 50.
Casual leave, 7 days a year and at most 2 in a row, is part of the annual balance, not extra. Confirm these rules against the labour law in force and your contracts.
Entitlement by service and age
| Situation | Days a year |
|---|---|
| First 6 months of service | 0 |
| After 6 months, in the first year | 15 |
| After a full year of service | 21 |
| After 10 years of service | 30 |
| Aged 50 or over (after 6 months) | 30 |
| Employees with disabilities (Labour Law 14/2025) | 45 |
Casual leave
Casual leave is for the unexpected: an employee can take it at short notice, up to 7 days a year and no more than 2 days in a row. Each casual day comes out of the annual balance.
Keeping balances right
- Grant the year’s entitlement on a set date, and recalculate it when service or age crosses a threshold
- Show employees their balance before they request leave
- Decide how many unused days carry over and the maximum balance, and write it in the policy
- Have requests approved by the manager, then HR, and keep every change in a ledger
Leave balances that are always right
keyt HR grants and accrues leave by service and age, shows employees their balance before they ask, and records every day in a ledger.
