How the dates work
Moon-sighted holidays
Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, the Islamic New Year and the Prophet’s Birthday follow the Hijri calendar. Dates marked “expected” are estimates and can move by a day once the moon is sighted.
Moved holidays
Egypt often moves a mid-week holiday to a Thursday by decree. The UAE can move holidays other than Eid to the start or end of the week. Check the announcement before you plan around a date.
Private sector
The lists are the holidays private-sector employees get. Government offices can get more days, and an employer can give extra days.
Holiday on a weekend
A holiday that falls on a weekend day is counted once, as a weekend day. Whether a replacement day is given depends on the decree and your policy.
How many public holidays does Egypt’s private sector get?
Around 20 days a year once the Eid holidays are counted: fixed national and religious days plus Eid al-Fitr, Arafat and Eid al-Adha, the Islamic New Year and the Prophet’s Birthday. The exact number of Eid days is set by decree each year.
What are the Saudi private-sector holidays?
Founding Day (22 February), four days for Eid al-Fitr, four days for Eid al-Adha starting on Arafat Day, and National Day (23 September).
When are the Eid holidays in 2027?
Expected around 10 March 2027 for Eid al-Fitr and 15 May 2027 for Arafat Day, with Eid al-Adha the next day. Each government confirms the dates once the moon is sighted.
Does working on a public holiday pay more?
Usually yes. In Egypt keyt HR’s default pays holiday hours at 3 times the hourly rate; the UAE and Saudi laws give a replacement day or extra pay. Check your contract and the law in force.
