The rules behind the numbers
Social insurance
The employee pays 11% and the employer 18.75% of the insurable wage. For 2026 the insurable wage is kept between EGP 2,700 and EGP 16,700 a month, so higher salaries pay the capped amount.
Taxable income
Gross salary minus the employee’s social insurance, multiplied by 12, minus the EGP 20,000 personal exemption.
Income tax
Progressive brackets from 0% to 27.5% on the annual taxable income, divided by 12 for the monthly payslip.
Martyrs’ fund
A 0.05% contribution on the gross salary, deducted from the employee.
Income tax brackets (annual taxable income)
| Annual taxable income (EGP) | Rate |
|---|---|
| 0 – 40,000 | 0% |
| 40,000 – 55,000 | 10% |
| 55,000 – 70,000 | 15% |
| 70,000 – 200,000 | 20% |
| 200,000 – 400,000 | 22.5% |
| 400,000 – 1,200,000 | 25% |
| above 1,200,000 | 27.5% |
Higher earners lose the lower brackets: above EGP 600,000 of annual taxable income the first brackets are taxed at a higher rate, and above EGP 1,200,000 everything up to 1,200,000 is taxed at 25%. The calculator applies this automatically.
Run the whole payroll this way
keyt HR does this for every employee every month, with attendance, overtime, loans and bank files, and a second person approving the run.
How is income tax calculated on a salary in Egypt?
Take the gross salary, subtract the employee’s social insurance, multiply by 12 and subtract the EGP 20,000 personal exemption. Apply the progressive brackets to that annual amount and divide the tax by 12.
What is the maximum insurable wage in 2026?
In keyt HR’s 2026 rules, EGP 16,700 a month, with a minimum of EGP 2,700. The limits usually rise every January.
What is the martyrs’ fund deduction?
A contribution of 0.05% of the gross salary, deducted from the employee, under the law on the fund for the families of martyrs and victims.
Does the calculator include overtime and bonuses?
No. It covers a full month of fixed salary. Overtime, taxable bonuses and attendance deductions change the taxable income; keyt HR includes them automatically.
